Watch this crew of drones 3D-print a tower

To display the drones’ capabilities, the researchers received them to make use of foam and a particular light-weight type of cement to construct buildings with heights starting from 0.18 meters to 2.05 meters. They have been constructed to inside 5 millimeters of the unique blueprint.

Then, to indicate that the system might work on extra complicated formations, the crew used the lights on the drones to create a light-trail time-lapse sequence as they simulated making a tall dome-like construction. Their work is described in a paper in Nature at this time.

Mirko Kovac, director of the Aerial Robotics Laboratory at Imperial College London, who led the analysis, says the tactic might be used to assemble buildings within the Arctic and even on Mars, or just to assist restore tall buildings that usually would require costly scaffolding.
