Two US scientists win Nobel Prize for discovery of temperature and contact receptors

Two US-based scientists had been awarded the Nobel Prize for locating receptors for temperature and contact.

David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian have been awarded the prize within the box of body structure or medication.

Professor Julius, 65, used capsaicin, the energetic part in chilli peppers, to spot the nerve sensors that permit the surface to answer warmth, in keeping with Patrik Ernfors of the Nobel Committee.

Professor Patapoutian discovered separate pressure-sensitive sensors in cells that reply to mechanical stimulation, he added.

The winners have been introduced on Monday via Thomas Perlmann, secretary-general of the Nobel Committee, who stated: “This actually unlocks one of the crucial secrets and techniques of nature.

“It is in reality one thing this is an important for our survival, so it is a crucial and profound discovery.”

The Nobel award comes with a gold medal and a prize of greater than $1m.

The opposite prizes for exceptional paintings within the fields of physics, chemistry, literature, peace and economics shall be awarded later this week.
