“Fire features are the number one accessory we are asked to incorporate into patio and gathering spaces,” Sothen says. “But while we had seen a handful of quality-built products in the built-in fire pit market, nearly all of the portable fire pits we were finding lacked the combo of quality, durability, and the ‘cool factor.’”

Over the course of a decade, the thought started to take form–and when Covid put a few of their tasks on pause, the mission to craft a design-forward transportable hearth pit lastly ignited.
Sothen and Schweikl pulled collectively the primary prototype in 2020, and the Nomad transportable propane hearth pit hit the market a 12 months after that. The closing product is a trendy, minimalist piece that blends these moments of cozy reference to a compact design sensibility.
Tohst’s stylish, transportable propane hearth pits are crafted in small batches, every that includes a high-output brass burner and a sturdy, powder-coated aluminum body designed to accommodate a normal 20-pound propane tank. There aren’t any ugly hoses: only a subtle 18-inch-by-18-inch centerpiece to enrich your outside residing atmosphere.
“The glow that radiates from the fire at night makes such a cool ambiance in any environment,” says Schweikl. “If you have a boat dock…it’s perfect.”
From the pool deck to the rooftop, the light-weight Nomad hearth pit pairs completely with the outside—wherever and no matter which means to you. Durability and craftsmanship are as integral to the model because the modern fashionable design and daring coloration choices (suppose “Juicy Fruit” orange or blush “Mochapeach”). Plus, every unit is manufactured and assembled within the U.S and is safety-tested for ANSI compliance.
“Burn bans around the Pacific Northwest have heavily restricted summer fires for camping and recreation during wildfire season, but the Nomad can still be burned responsibly,” says Sothen.
While Sothen and Schweikl designed the Nomad with residential use in thoughts, they’ve been shocked (and “delighted”) to see the hospitality business—eating places, breweries, and wineries particularly—embrace the product too.
But is it any shock that this ingenious design has caught on? Gathering across the hearth is an exercise that dates again to prehistoric instances, and the enjoyment of sharing area and coming collectively has develop into that rather more profound in the course of the previous few years.
“Being present in the moment with others is what makes gathering around fires special,” says Sothen. “Spending time with loved ones around the warmth and glow of a fire…sometimes, it’s the only entertainment you need.”
