St. Philomena (Virgin and Martyr)


Little is understood of the lifetime of St. Philomena earlier than the invention of her celebrated tomb within the Catacombs of Priscilla in Rome. An inscription close to her tomb learn “Peace be with thee, Philomena.” Near her bones was found a small glass vial, containing the stays of blood. Because it was a well-liked customized of the early martyrs to go away symbols and indicators akin to these, it was decided that St. Philomena was a virgin and a martyr. She was honored by different saints akin to St. John Vianney, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, St. Peter Eymard, and St. Peter Chanel.

Behold me kneeling in spirit earlier than you.

I beseech you to intercede for me.
From heaven, please look upon us.
Spouse of Jesus Christ,
console me in my troubles,
strengthen me in temptations,
defend me within the risks which encompass me;
get hold of all of the graces essential for me,
particularly [your intentions],
and help me at my demise.
Amen.
