Little is understood of the lifetime of St. Philomena earlier than the invention of her celebrated tomb within the Catacombs of Priscilla in Rome. An inscription close to her tomb learn “Peace be with thee, Philomena.” Near her bones was found a small glass vial, containing the stays of blood.
