Police arrest suspect in lethal Nagano stabbings


Police on Saturday arrested a person in his 40s who’s believed to have fatally stabbed one individual and injured two others in entrance of JR Nagano Station days earlier.

The suspect, who had apparently been on the run since Wednesday, was being held on suspicion of tried homicide, NHK reported. In the stabbing, a 49-year-old male officer employee from the town of Nagano was killed, whereas a 37-year-old man and 46-year-old girl had been injured.

The two survivors — who had been each ready at a bus rotary on the station’s north aspect when the assailant struck — instructed police that they didn’t know their attacker, with authorities saying the stabbing seemed to be a random assault.

Police had publicly launched photographs from safety cameras in a bid to uncover the suspect’s whereabouts.

The lethal assault and hunt for the suspect had spurred panic within the space, with enterprise closing down early and prompting an elevated police presence.
