They are clever and expert manipulators. Fittingly, “The Music of the Night” performs when Misty takes the personal detective Jessica hostage and prepares to interrogate her. During this tune, the Phantom kidnaps Christine from her dressing room and tries to seduce her together with his elegant singing voice. Misty’s investigative abilities and cleverness are additionally harking back to the Phantom, who haunts the Palais Garnier with magic methods that trigger chandeliers to crash, pianos to play by themselves, and opera singers to croak. They are each sneaky characters who will do no matter it takes to get what they need.
Misty and Crystal’s bonding over theatre is similar to how the Phantom’s solely method of discovering understanding and friendship is thru his vocal classes with Christine. Misty’s eyes mild up when Crystal suggests they apply harmonizing collectively or work on a “Steel Magnolias” monologue for Shauna’s child bathe. Much like music in “The Phantom of the Opera,” theatre is a method for Misty to really feel accepted and get the eye she craves so desperately. When Misty reveals her true self to Crystal, she is (understandably) not as accepting as Christine, calling her a psycho and rejecting her as a good friend.
