Kremlin desires to renew arms management talks with US ‘as quickly as attainable’


Tensions over arms management treaties intensified after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in early 2022. Putin declared in February 2023 that he would droop Moscow’s participation within the New START treaty — the final remaining nuclear arms management treaty between Russia and the United States.

As a countermeasure, Washington introduced in June 2023 that it could droop a number of provisions of the treaty, together with not exchanging knowledge with Moscow and never facilitating inspection actions on U.S. territories. 

Peskov’s feedback on Friday come as a little bit of a shock, as solely every week in the past Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated the alternative, rejecting U.S.-Russian arms management talks due to Washington’s assist for Ukraine.

But now, simply days after the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, the temper in Moscow appears to be altering as Trump tries to forge a deal to finish the struggle in Ukraine. 

The U.S. president immediately blamed Putin for the truth that the struggle in Ukraine continues to be raging and threatened large tariffs and sanctions on Russian merchandise if he fails to make a deal to finish the battle.
