IMF, China Ready to Work With New Argentina Leader Milei


LONDON (Reuters) – Kristalina Georgieva, head of the International Monetary Fund, and a spokesperson for China’s overseas ministry stated on Monday they had been able to work with Argentina’s president-elect Javier Milei.

Argentina elected right-wing libertarian Javier Milei as its new president on Sunday, rolling the cube on an outsider with radical views to repair an economic system battered by triple-digit inflation, a looming recession and rising poverty.

The IMF has a $44 billion mortgage program with Argentina.

“We stay up for working carefully with (Milei) and his administration within the interval forward to develop and implement a powerful plan to safeguard macroeconomic stability and strengthen inclusive progress for all,” Georgieva stated in a submit on X.

China, one other key lender to Argentina, additionally congratulated the South American nation on its election.

“We stand able to work with the Argentine aspect to proceed our friendship, enhance our respective improvement and revitalization with win-win cooperation, and promote the regular and long-term improvement of China-Argentina relations,” overseas ministry spokesperson Mao Ning instructed a daily press briefing.
