414 MEPs voted in favour, 112 in opposition to, 57 abstained.

In its committee vote on 15 June, the Budgetary Control committee gave Blok’s nomination a beneficial opinion, following a hearing with the candidate earlier the same day.

EU member states will make the ultimate resolution on the appointment

The Dutch publish on the ECA has been vacant since April 2022, following the death of the incumbent, Mr Alex Brenninkmeyer.


Mr Abraham Blok

Since 2012 Mr Blok has held numerous positions within the Dutch authorities; from May 2021 till January 2022, he was the minister of financial affairs and local weather coverage. See his full CV in the draft report.


Background

The EU Treaty permits every member state to suggest a candidate for the European Court of Auditors. The Council of the EU, after consulting Parliament, appoints the chosen nominees for a six-year time period.
